Stress is an important part of women’s life – whether it is about family responsibilities or about the workplace.
As women, we play so many different roles: wife, mother, daughter, friend and/or an employee. And, as we want to play all the roles perfectly, we make our life a hectic and a stressed one.
In the middle of these responsibilities, every woman struggles to find some ME TIME – sometimes to de-stress herself.
It’s almost impossible to find ways to de-stress. But, for the sake of ourselves and our family, we need to find those ways as our health depends on it.
Here are 10 simple ways to reduce stress.
1. Exercise
Research says women who exercise regularly are less likely to experience stress than those who don’t.
If you don’t like an exercise routine, then you can try some of the fun activities: Dancing, Yoga, Walking, Jogging, Swimming or Aerobics.
You can also try playing your favorite outdoor games with your kids or husband. It won’t only reduce the stress but also help in building healthy relationships.
2. Eat Right
Several foods help in reducing stress levels. Here are some of the most common ones: Green Leafy Vegetables, Nuts, Water, Green tea, Chicken Breast, Dark Chocolate, Banana
Some food items can interact with medications or have side effects, so you may want to consult with a doctor if you have a medical condition.
3. Light a Candle
An Essential Oil or a Scented Candle may help you in lowering the levels of stress.
Using scents to treat your mood is called aromatherapy. Several studies show that aromatherapy can decrease stress and improve sleep.
4. Reduce Caffeine Intake
Caffeine is a stimulant found in coffee, tea, chocolate and energy drinks. High doses can increase anxiety.
People have different thresholds for how much caffeine they can tolerate. If you notice that caffeine makes you jittery or anxious, consider cutting back.
5. Write It Down
It’s better that you not only write about what you are stressed about but also write about things you are thankful for.
When we shift our focus our thoughts on what isn’t working to what is working, it relieves us from the stress.
6. Chew Gum
A study showed that people who chew gum regularly have a lower level of stress than those who didn’t.
The most appropriate explanation could be that chewing gum promotes blood flow to your brain.
7. Spend Time With Friends & Family
Social connections with friends and family can help you handle stress better.
A study found that for women, spending time with friends and children helps release oxytocin, a natural stress reliever.
A separate study found that the people with less social connections are more likely to suffer from depression.
8. Laugh
Try watching a funny TV show or hanging out with friends who make you laugh or read a cartoon. Laughter is a great way to relieve stress, and that’s no joke.
9. Deep Breathing
Mental stress releases hormones that lead to the faster heartbeat and quicker breathing.
Deep breathing exercises can help in reducing the heart rate, allowing you to feel more calm and relaxed.
Focus on your breath and try to make it slower and deeper. When you breathe in deeply through your nose, your lungs fully expand and your belly rises.
10. Love
Cuddling, kissing, hugging and sex may help lower stress by releasing oxytocin and lowering the blood pressure.
