7 Colors To Make Your Home Stress Free, Research Says

by IForHer Team
May 25, 2019

Do you know that only by choosing the right colors at your home, you can significantly reduce the stress level and well being of your family and kids?

Feng Shui, as well as Science, suggest that the colors of your room affect your stress levels. According to a study conducted at the Minnesota State University, some colors increase stress levels whereas some reduce stress.

In order to create a calming and serene environment, here are 7 stress-reducing colors that maintain a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

#1: Olive Green

Green is the color of nature which is a reminder of environment, growth and financial prosperity.

Olive Green creates a calming, relaxing and peaceful mood. If your living room is one of your main area for family gatherings or entertaining guests, olive green will bring freshness, harmony, and wellbeing to your house.

#2: Tan

If you want to create an atmosphere of warmth and coziness, then Tan is your color. The beauty of this stress-reducing color is that even in a dimly lit room, tan mimics the warm glow of a candlelight.

You can try pairing this color with rustic, wood elements to create a relaxing space to relax.

When you paint a room white, while it may seem clean but it can create feelings of emptiness and loneliness. If you add a tinge of gray to the white, it will create a stress-reducing color that will create a more comfortable feeling.

In the right shade, Gray can be a calming and soothing color that will reduce stress and anxiety.

#4: Light Yellow

Yellow is a color associated with summers, energy, brightness, and happiness. And, it’s also associated with lemons and freshness. But, be careful, the wrong shade of yellow can trigger headaches. Pale Yellow – the color of lemonade is a perfect color to bring brightness to the room.

#5: Pink

Red might be your favorite color. But, sadly, red is not the stress-reducing color. It is, in fact, one of the colors that induce stress. If you paint a small space deep red, the color can make it seem to look smaller. This could lead to the feelings of claustrophobia and stress.

Hence, Pink is the perfect alternative if you want a shade of red but want it to have a soothing effect too.  Pink can lighten up a room and will do wonders for the spaces with windows.

#6: Lavender

Now, most of the times, people make mistakes when they quote Purple as a stress-relieving color. Though purple color is associated with luxury and wealth, it is not a stress releasing color. If you try darker purple in a room, irrespective of the room size, it creates feelings of stress, sadness, and frustration.

However, a shade of Purple – Lavender has the ability to create a relaxed atmosphere  To recreate the calm feelings in a room, consider using a mix of the neutral stress reducing colors mentioned above with lavender elements.

No wonder, being associated with the sky and ocean, Blue is one of the most stress-reducing colors.

Pale Blue – the color of the sky is associated with the clouds and airiness. It is a perfect calming color that can be used for bedrooms and bathrooms. This neutral color will make any space calm and restful. Despite blue’s ability to create a relaxing atmosphere, it is often suggested to refrain from painting dining rooms and kitchens any shade of blue as it’s the most un-appetizing color to the brain.
