This incident of a brave 15-year-old blind girl coming forward to raise her voice against sexual abuse at the hands of her teachers, will make you question humanity?
In the Palanpur city of Gujarat, a 15-year-old blind girl has accused her two teachers, one of them being 62-year-old, for raping her several times for four months in the school premises run by a private trust in Ambaji.
The heart-wrenching incident came forward when this 15-year-old mustered the courage to share the horrific details with her aunt.
So What happened?
According to the sources, after studying up to Class 8 in her native, in July, the girl had taken admission into this school as she wanted to learn music. As the school also imparts rehabilitation and vocational training to the differently-abled students, it was a great chance for her to become self-reliant. She was living in the school’s hostel.
Last month, after the Diwali vacation, the girl’s refusal to go back to the school made the family members curious. And after a while, she broke down and shared her ordeal how she was sexually assaulted by two teachers – Chaman Thakor (62) and Jayanti Thakor (30).
As per TOI, the complaint lodged by the girl’s aunt on November 4 mentioned that the minor girl was first raped in the music room by Jayanti Thakor two months ago. And, after three days, Chaman Thakor too allegedly raped her in the same room. It is alleged that Jayanti again raped her on the day before the Navratri festival was to commence.
The girl said that the sexual assaults stopped only after she shared the incident with three other teachers at the school. But, what is saddening is the fact that no one came forward to raise voice against these teachers for their heinous act.
Rather than dismissing them and lodging a complaint against the accusers, the school refused to take action. It took a police complaint to force the school management to take action against these teachers. After the complaint, both teachers were dismissed.
Police inspector, Ambaji, JB Agrawat, said,
“We are investigating the case in detail and a manhunt has been launched to trace the two accused teachers who have fled.”
The Bottom Line
At IFORHER, we are saddened by how a disgusting segment of our society, rather than applauding her courage for becoming self-reliant irrespective of her disability, tried to crush her.
We are in awe of her courage as she not only raised her voice to seek justice for herself but also saved many more from becoming the victims. We hope our authorities would take swift action not only against the abusers but also against the school for its negligence to take action.
