While we were busy celebrating the love showered by our father on this father’s day, there was an unlucky soul who was struggling for her life. She was stabbed by her father for choosing studies over marriage!
An unfortunate 15-year-old daughter has paid a hefty price for her dream to get an education like you and us.
As per the ANI, the daughter has accused her father and brother of attempting to take her life. She claimed that she was attacked with a knife and then thrown into the canal thinking she was dead.
And, this was her punishment because she refused to get married and rather choose to continue her studies.
The victim told ANI.
“My father took me to a desolate place near the canal where my brother joined him. While my brother restrained me with a cloth on the neck, from behind my father repeatedly slashed at me with a knife he had brought from a shop.
I begged him to stop but he showed no remorse. He wanted me to stop my studies and get married instead,”
She added how the merciless father not only pushed her to the canal but also come back to check if she was alive. But, this brave soul managed to swim further away to escape his gaze.
The daughter’s claim has been verified by her brother-in-law. He shared how this 15-year-old was staying with her sister & him as parents wanted to marry her off against her will. He shared:
“She had been living with us for two months. Her parents do not want her to continue her studies.
They wanted to marry her off. Just a couple of days before they had taken her from my house. Today I got a call that she had been found near a canal.”
Though the investigation is underway, we hope the culprits get the stringent punishment.
This heartbreaking story reflects how orthodox families are not only failing their daughters but also failing the whole country. Definitely, the pleas and message of “Beti Padao Beti Bachao” campaign have fallen on their deaf ears.
