In a heartbreaking incident, police in Bengaluru have arrested a 68-year-old man for allegedly sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl. As per the reports, police mentioned that the accused, identified as Venkataramanappa, is a resident of Bagepalli. He was arrested on Wednesday.
The police further added that the accused, who used to work as the priest at a local temple, had gone to his daughter’s house. As his daughter and her husband, who is also a temple priest in Devanahalli, were out of town, they had requested the accused to perform the prayers on Tuesday evening.
10-Year-Old Had Gone To Play With Her Friend
The 10-year-old girl, who lived in the same neighborhood, went near the accused’s daughter’s house to play. Unfortunately, the accused spotted the girl alone. In the pretext of giving sweets, the accused lured the 10-year-old inside the house and sexually assaulted her.
Scared Parents Looked For Their Missing Daughter
After a long time, when the daughter did not return home, the parents got worried. The scared and worried parents started frantically searching for their missing daughter.
Fortunately, the family received their first lead after a flower vendor near the temple told them that he had seen the girl going into the priest’s house. Without wasting any time, the couple went to the priest’s house. When they reached the house, they saw their daughter coming out of the home and crying.
But, what the 10-year-old revealed next, left many heartbroken and disappointed. After the 10-year-old shared her ordeal, the family approached the police.
On Tuesday night, Venkataramanappa, the accused was detained by the police and was formally arrested on Wednesday.
Based on the sources, the police have confirmed that Venkataramanappa has confessed to the crime. Even the CCTV visuals from the spot have also shown the girl going into the priest’s house.
Police said the accused has been booked under sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act and section 176 under the IPC.
Though the judiciary process is underway, it is heartbreaking how we are failing our kids. While we hope the authorities provide speedy justice to this 10-year-old and her parents, this incident makes us feel scary about the future of women in our country.
