In the midst of increasing domestic violence cases in India, a heartbreaking video of a senior IPS officer in Bhopal has gone viral on social media. In a shocking video, the senior IPS officer could be seen beating and assaulting his wife.
As per the sources, the incident happened on Sunday. The wife of Special Director General of Police (Madhya Pradesh) Purushottam Sharma caught him red-handed in a compromising position with another woman. According to sources, the police officer’s extramarital affair has been a long-running dispute between the husband and wife.
This incident led to an argument between the couple, which later turned violent as in the video Sharma was seen dragging his wife along the ground and thrashing her.
In the video, there are other staff members who could be seen trying to intervene as the woman is crying for help. After the incident, the son filed a complaint against his father and sent a copy of the assault video according to ABP News. He has demanded strict punishment for his father for assaulting his mother.

Meanwhile, MP State Women Commission Spokesperson Sangeeta Sharma shared,
“…Such an incident will not be tolerated by the Women’s Commission. Such incidents by senior officials do not convey a good message in society”
However, the IPS has denied all charges. While calling it “a family dispute, not a crime”, he said:
“This is a family dispute, not a crime. I am neither a violent person nor a criminal. It is unfortunate that I have to go through this. My wife stalks me & has put cameras in the house,”
As per the sources, the police officer has been relieved of his duties. But it is heartbreaking how the people who are supposed to protect women are themselves abusing their power. This incident is just a reminder of how women of different strata across society become victims of domestic violence. It is a matter of utter shame how even in the 21st century, women are still struggling with domestic violence.
