In 2013, 35-year-old, Vadivel Devendra, was convicted for raping a 5-year-old girl in Mumbai.
When Devendra was released early in 2018 for ‘good behavior’, hardly anyone knew that within 6 months, another 9-year-old will become the victim of this predator.
According to Times Of India Devendra, a convicted child rapist who walked free from jail 6 months ago, has been reportedly arrested for sexually assaulting and murdering a 9-year-old.
The Horrific Incident
With the 9-Year-Old went missing, the police suspicion arose when they caught Devendra walking up to her on camera. As her mother was sick, the little girl went out to buy the tea for her sick mother. It was at this moment Devendra approached her.
Being a daughter of daily wage laborers and class III student, the little girl knew Devendra as a neighbor.
While talking about the incident, the police official shared with TOI,
“The victim, who resided in a chawl at Nehru Nagar in Vile Parle, had gone missing on Thursday evening. A missing person’s report had been filed at Juhu police station,” a police official said.
“The girl’s body was found inside a public toilet in the same locality around 10 am today and we arrested one person in this connection,”
Devendra, reportedly kidnapped, raped and murdered the little girl, and later dumped her body in a public toilet septic tank in Vile Parle.
In the CCTV footage, Devendra is seen talking to the girl who knew him as a neighbor.
“Initially he claimed that he left the girl there and didn’t know what happened later. He was detained on Friday night and on Saturday morning he confessed to the offence.
“He led us the spot where he had dumped the minor’s body,”
“We are questioning Devendra on how he lured the girl and where he committed the offence.”
The locals gathered and blocked the road in front of the Juhu Police Station to protest against the crime and demand stern action against the culprit.
According to reports, Devendra has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 201 (disappearance of evidence), 302 (murder), 363 (kidnap), 376 (rape) and under POCSO Act sections 4 (penetrative sexual assault), 8 (sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment).
This incident makes you question humanity and our legal system.
Why once captured and proven guilty, these monsters are allowed to roam free?
Do we really understand the risk of setting them free?
How can we expect any humanity left in a man who targets innocent kid for his sexual pleasure?
At IFORHER, we mourn the death of the innocent 9-year-old, whom our society never deserved. We hope her family gets the strength to bear the loss and our legal system ensure the harshest punishment to the culprit.
