In a heartbreaking incident, two-year-old Sujith Wilson who was trapped into an abandoned borewell in Tamil Nadu since Friday has now been reported dead.
Sadly after multiple futile attempts to rescue the boy, there was very little that could have been done after more than 80 hours. As per the Quint, a bad smell started coming from the borewell on Monday and shortly after that the decomposed body was recovered.
But, what is even more saddening is the fact that the boy’s body was dismembered and the team was able to retrieve only a portion of the body.
Speaking to ANI, disheartened Commissioner of Revenue Administration J Radhakrishnan said:
“We tried our best to rescue him but unfortunately, a foul smell had started coming from the borewell in which the child had fallen.”
On Tuesday, October 29, Sujith’s body was brought to Pudur for cremation at the wee hours.
On 25th October, while playing near his house in Nadukattupatti, Sujith had fallen into the borewell near his house in Nadukattupatti. Though a rig machine was used to drill near the well, it was damaged due to the presence of rocks.
Post which, a high-speed engine from Ramanathapuram was brought to complete the drilling, but it took a lot of time.
As the news surfaced, many came forward to share their condolences. In a short while #RIPSujith and #SorrySujith started trending on Twitter and this is how people reacted to the tragic news.
#RIPSujith really sad sad morning. Let’s hope such accidents don’t happen again.

2-year-old Sujith Wilson dies after fighting for 3 days without food or water. 75+ hours of rescue operations and we still couldn’t save the child with all the technology that we have.
Govt officials must ensure all the borewells in their area are properly closed. #RIPSujith???? pic.twitter.com/3HXEw6809B

How much Pain the child could’ve been gone through in that cramped space, really it is very disheartening to see such an tragic incident. First punish the one who is responsible for all of this, then the Soul will be RIP.#SujithWilson

What is heartbreaking is the fact that Sujith Wilson is not the first rather the 12th child, who has fallen into an open borewell in Tamil Nadu since 2009.
While the authorities managed to save four of them, the rest of them were failed by us.
At IForHer, we mourn Sujith’s death and hope God gives strength to his parents to bear the pain.
