It is heartbreaking to see how our society is failing young kids by making them victims of sexual abuse. While India is ranked as the world’s fifth-largest economy, it is a moment of shame that many children are at risk of becoming prey to sex-deprived monsters.
One such moment of shame surfaced when a Class 8 student committed suicide by pouring kerosene on herself and setting herself ablaze in Betul in Madhya Pradesh.
As per IndiaToday the girl, who was 14, was rushed to a private hospital in Nagpur with 95 percent burn injuries and declared dead early on Wednesday morning.
Police said that at 6 pm the girl’s two sisters were on the terrace and the parents had gone out. At that time the girl set herself on fire by pouring kerosene.
In a suicide note, she said she had been gang-raped three months ago by three young men. Two of these men have now been arrested.
The victim shared how she was being harassed and that threats were being made to her life in order to dissuade her from complaining.
As per the sources, SP DS Bhadoria & Additional SP Shraddha Joshi reached the hospital at 9.30 pm and took the student’s statement. The student has accused 3 youths of committing atrocities. Hurt by this, the student set herself on fire.
With the rampant increase in child abuse cases, it is disappointing to see how our authorities and society are failing our kids in coping up with the abuse.
In December last year, a 15-year-old rape survivor in the state committed suicide after being depressed about the incident. The minor girl had ended her life after she was unable to bear the trauma of rape.
Sexual abuse not only scars the body but also scars the soul for the rest of life. It isn’t easy for many to cope with this painful trauma.
It is more important than ever that the parents, schools, and authorities come together. We need to ensure that we make our kids ready to protect themselves and raise voice against sexual abuse. Also, we need to help the victims manage the trauma that comes along with it.
At IFORHER, we hope to reach every parent to make sure that they let their kids know how to battle with sexual abuse. Do let us know if you are with us in our fight against sexual abuse.
