The incident of a man chopping his 1-month-old granddaughter into pieces because of her deformities shows how barbaric we are.
We might be in the race to become one of the super-powers but after reading this gut-wrenching incident, you will definitely feel that there is a long way to go.
Recently a grandfather, resident of Gujarat, turned into a murderer to harshly punish his grand-daughter for no fault of hers.
The mother, Jyotika, hardly knew that her daughter will be punished for the birth defects over which she didn’t have any control.
Her daughter was born with physical deformities like imperforate anus, big ears, and eyes and very long hair.
After consulting many doctors, the family decided to let the child undergo surgery at SSG hospital in Vadodara.
But, Jyotika’s father-in-law, Shankarsinh Meda, was convinced that the girl would bring bad luck to the family.Â
On Monday, the grandfather asked Jyotika to leave the baby girl with him and go away for 2 days. He convinced Jyotika and his son that he would treat the baby girl with traditional methods during that period. As her father-in-law was persistent, Jyotika didn’t have much choice but to comply. She went to her maternal aunt’s place while her husband went for work.
On the same night, Jyotika’s brother-in-law rushed to share the horrendous news with her.
He shared how father had not only killed the baby but also had cut her into pieces to bury her near the crematorium.
We ask ourselves:Â What kind of superpower we would become if we don’t understand that deformities are not the game of evil spirits but the play of genes.
It’s high time that as a society, we have an open conversation about disabilities. Rather than seeing the affected as a person with a disability, we need to start looking at them as superheroes. Heroes who hustle to push themselves forward every day.
Let’s build a world where people with a disability could live with dignity and respect – just like you and me.
