What is the single most important responsibility of any FATHER?
“Keeping The Kid Safe” would be the most common answer.
But what if rather than protecting kids, the father starts using a kid to take off his desperation. Something similar happened in Gurugram, which made this story – the most heartbreaking one that we have published so far.
As shared by the police on Monday, a man has been arrested in Gurgaon for allegedly raping his eight-year-old daughter repeatedly over several months.
When neighbors found out about the horrific details of the torture the girl, who studies in class four, was subjected to, they immediately called the police. ACP (crime) Shamsher Singh shared with NDTV:
“The girl was not behaving normally over the past few days and when neighbours started asking her about it she told them about the sexual exploitation.”
The police shared:
“The girl used to stay with her father in Pataudi area. After the death of her mother, her father repeatedly sexually assaulted her over the last couple of months,”
Shamsher Singh further added:
“The girl said that she was sexually exploited almost every night after her father got drunk. Last week, the accused father raped the eight-year-old twice,”
The father has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO). The little girl has been rescued & sent to children observation center for counseling.
But this is not the first time that a daughter has become a victim of a drunk father in Gurugram.
Even last week, a similar case came to light when a mother of 13-year-old daughter reached out to police to file a case against her 39-year-old husband.
As per Times Of India, the Gurugram man allegedly raped his 13-year-old daughter after a fight with his wife. The accused, who is on the run, has been booked under the POCSO Act.
While recalling her trauma, The mother shared with police in her complaint,
“On April 19, he came home in an inebriated state and we had a fight. He hit my head with a bottle, but I escaped with an injury.
He went to the terrace in a rage and later asked my daughter to serve him dinner. The next morning, my daughter told me that he had raped her. I confronted him but he ran away.
I tried calling him multiple times but he did not receive my calls. On Thursday, I called him again but he started threatening me, saying that he will assault our daughter again. So, finally I moved to police,”
The medical examination confirmed rape and the 13-year-old recorded the statement that her father had indeed raped her.
Though we hope that the accused if found guilty, should get the hardest punishment possible, we would like to focus on one more aspect of the problem.
Doesn’t matter whether it was Nirbhaya Case or Jessica Lal Murder Case or these two cases, no one can deny the involvement of alcohol in these crime stories.
Do you think countless alcohol selling stores (‘theka’) available in Gurugram could be the reason behind increasing crime in the city?
Do you think it is high time that our policymakers tackle the grave issue of alcohol addiction?
Alcohol doesn’t only kill the person – it kills the families; it kills society; it makes humans lose consciousness, which leads to heinous and heartwrenching crimes like these.
