In a heart-wrenching case of child abuse, our courts have sentenced a 23-year-old man to death for the rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl in 2018.
The victim belonged to Haryana’s Palwal district, which is 79 km from Delhi. In June 2018, the 5-year-old was kidnapped, raped and stabbed to death by a man called Virender.
In order to take revenge from his boss after a heated argument, this monster kidnapped, raped and killed his daughter. According to a report by India Today, he then stabbed her in the stomach and stuffed her body inside a wheat flour container.
As the culprit’s mother also helped him in crime, she has been sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment. As quoted by a news agency, the local court has also fined her Rs 5,000.
As per the National Crime Record Bureau, as many as 109 children were sexually abused every day in India in 2018. And, what will break your heart is the fact that there has been a 22 percent jump in such cases from the previous year.
The POCSO Act, 2012 provides the laws for the protection of children from sexual assault, sexual harassment, and pornography. But it has become more important than ever that we provide for special treatment of cases relating to child sexual abuse. We not only need to set-up special courts with special prosecutors but also we need a team to support the child victims.
Out of 21,605 child rapes recorded in 2018, 21,401 cases involved rapes of girls whereas 204 cases involved abuse of boys. The highest number of child rapes were recorded in Maharashtra at 2,832 followed by Uttar Pradesh at 2023 and Tamil Nadu at 1457.
At IFORHER, we are extremely happy that the court has given stringent punishment to this monster. And, we hope we would hear many more such judgments so that no kid has to become the victim of these sex-deprived monster.
