After a brutal gangrape, a 19-year-old Dalit girl succumbed to multiple injuries on Tuesday morning. The heart-wrenching incident happened in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh.
Even after Nirbhaya and Disha’s brutal rape cases, our countrymen are showing no signs of fear or regret. The increasing number of rape cases is just an ugly reminder of how our authorities are failing our daughters.
Recently a heart-wrenching case of a 19-year-old girl, who was brutally raped by four men in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district surfaced. On Tuesday morning, the teenager succumbed to multiple injuries.
The horrific incident happened on the 14th of September. Post which, the victim was admitted to the AMU’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital. Last evening, she was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in the national capital on Monday evening as her condition deteriorated.
What happened?
On September 14, the 19-year-old was attacked in a field when she had gone to collect cattle fodder. As she was dragged with a dupatta that led to permanent injuries to her spinal cord. After the abuse, the accused tried to strangulate her to death. But the bold 19-year-old resisted their attempt. And, in the process, she had also ended up biting her tongue and suffering a severe cut on it.
As per the sources, a spokesman of the hospital said that the woman’s legs were completely paralyzed and arms partially paralyzed.Â
The head of neurosurgery at the Aligarh hospital, Fakhrul Hoda told the reporters:
“Surgery to fix her spine could only have been done after her condition improved. The damage to the spinal cord appeared to be permanent.”
The victim was the youngest of five siblings. She had been on life support and on her father’s request, the girl was referred to Delhi on Monday.
All four accused are arrested
A week after she was hospitalized, the brave and courageous victim shared the details of her victims with the police. With all the details, she named the four accused – Sandip, Ramu, Lavkush, and Ravi. The accused have been arrested for gang rape, attempt to murder, and under sections of the SC/ST Act.
On Sunday, the heartbroken father told the reporters that the families of the four accused have threatened them for speaking out. Even the girl had also told her family that the four men had threatened her with dire consequences if she informed anyone about the incident.
With their daughter gone, how long these parents have to wait for justice?
After Nirbhaya’s brutal rape, Asha Devi had to fight an almost seven-year-long battle to seek justice for her daughter. And, now we wonder how long these parents have to wait before they would get justice for their daughter.
As these parents are struggling with the immense pain of losing their daughter, we hope authorities won’t fail them and provide speedy justice.
At IFORHER, we are heartbroken to see how even the stricter laws couldn’t stop these monsters to tear our daughters apart. As we pray for strength for this family, we wonder if we ever would be able to make our daughters feel safe in their own country?
R.I.P the brave soul! Our society failed you!
