How it happened
The now-deceased wife, identified as B Jayamma, and the accused, identified as Srinu, married each other 20 years ago.
On Friday Jayamma, along with her son, went to attend a wedding ceremony. But when the mother-son duo came back home, Srinu, who had gone to attend another function, also returned. It was then, the accused told his wife to cook food for him.
After some time, when he found out that the food was not ready, he picked up an argument with Jayamma over the issue. As per The Times of India during the argument, in a fit of rage, he allegedly strangled Jayamma to death with a saree.
The victim was later found lying dead on the floor by her son. Her husband was missing from the house. Following this, police were alerted and a case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the accused.
Some time back, a 34-year-old wife sustained burns after her husband threw steaming water on her during an argument over refusal to serve him a cup of coffee.
We are heartbroken by the increasing domestic violence against women in India. It is sad how even in the 21st century, women are not safe even at their own house.
It is heart-wrenching to see how this pandemic has hit women with domestic violence, overwork, and pain. In tough times like these, it is sad and depressing how women are facing the ugly face of our patriarchal society.
