IIT Graduate Arrested For Sending Rape Threat To 10-MO Daughter Of Virat Kohli: Ugly Reality Of Educated Indian Men

by IForHer Team
November 12, 2021

Recently, Virat Kohli stood up for his fellow cricketer Mohammad Shami, who was abused online after India’s defeat to Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021. While Kohli did the right thing, he hardly knew that his daughter would have to bear the brunt of his stand.

Post Virat’s stand, an angry Twitter user lost his calm and insensitively gave rape threats to Virat and Anushka’s 10-month-old daughter Vamika. Many people were outraged by the tweet and demanded action against the abuser.

As per the recent report by NDTV, Mumbai police has arrested an IIT-Hyderabad graduate who has allegedly sent rape threats to the infant.

As per the sources, the accused, identified as Ram Nagesh Srinivas Akubathini – is an IIT graduate and software engineer, who had been working with a prominent food delivery app in Bengaluru. His salary was around Rs 24 lakh per annum, the father said, adding Akubathini turned an introvert when he resigned from his job, a year ago. He quit his job to prepare for a masters degree in the US. In the next couple of days, he would have headed to the US but the Mumbai police got hold of him in Hyderabad before his departure.

Sadly, the 23-year-old man has a history of online trolling and has been using multiple identities to do so. As per the sources, his middle-class family wasn’t aware of his activities till now and can’t determine why he did so.

Speaking to The Quint, the father of the accused, A Srinivas, said, “I did not know anything about this till the police came to our home. I did not even know that there is something called Twitter. I would have guided my son better if I knew that he was being abusive on the internet.” Akubathini should not have typed out the message, “which got accidentally sent”, in the first place, he said.

The father further added “He made a mistake. He is ready to apologise. He would not have done anything to hurt anyone. But he now understands the seriousness of what has happened.” The 23-year-old was scared when his tweet went viral, the father said. “He is ready to apologise. We did not raise our children to be abusers. We will correct this mistake,” the father  further added.

Mumbai police have booked Akubathini under Sections 354 (a) 506, 500 including Section 67, 67 (b) of the IT Act.

The Ugly Reality Of Our Educated Indian Men

It is heart-breaking how one of the finest brains of the country could indulge in such a disgusting act. If this is what educated Indian men can do, we are worried about the future of our kids and women in our country! With such educated Indian men, is any hope for a better society? What do you think?
