As many of us are raising our daughters to be brave, we leave no stone unturned in making sure that they raise their voices against sexual abuse.
But recently when a Class 8 student showed the same courage to not become a victim of the lustful desire of her teacher, the fate that she met would break your heart.
In Kanpur, when this girl student rejected her teacher’s advances, she was shot dead by him on Thursday.
The teacher fired three bullets at the girl student when she was returning home after school. Sadly, one of the three bullets hit the girl’s neck causing her to fall on the ground. After struggling for her life at a hospital, the little girl died on the same night.
According to SP Kanpur Dehat, Anurag Vats,
“The girl was shot dead by her school teacher. She died while getting treated at a hospital late Thursday.”
One eye witness Nikhil Yadav told India Today TV,
“The villagers rushed the injured girl to the hospital in the evening where she succumbed to her injuries late in the night. After her death, the angry villagers have now blocked roads. We will not open the roads until the accused teacher is nabbed.”
The accused teacher, identified as Shailendra Rajput, had been harassing the student for a long time. Because of this, the school had suspended him for three months. Reportedly, he was angry with his suspension.
The incident has invoked anger and agony among the residents. And, now the residents have shown their anger by creating a ruckus at the school and blocking roads.
Though the FIR has been registered against the accused, the teacher is still on run. As per India Today, the family members of the girl are demanding death sentence for the accused.
When the POCSO Act was appended to include the death penalty for child abusers, many of us took a deep breath of relief. We felt elated and relieved as we felt our authorities were taking steps in the right direction to save our kids.
But, hardly we knew that it would not be enough to stop the sexual abuse against our young girls and boys.
The problem of sexual harassment has been ever-growing, and what’s making it worse is the fact that even schools have become unsafe. If teachers themselves become predators, how will parents be able to keep their kids safe?
