If you felt it is the only poor and uneducated segment of our society that mistreats and abuses women, then this story is an eye-opener. Despite being educated and rich, these businessmen from reputed families not only recorded private moments of 187 women but also used them to extort money.
In a shocking incident, Kolkata Police have arrested three persons, including two members of reputed business houses, on the charge of blackmailing. Police have also found the video clips of private moments of 187 women in their possession.
Aditya Agarwal and Anish Loharuka, the main accused, were arrested on Wednesday after a woman gathered her courage to lodge a complaint against them for demanding Rs 10 lakh from her.
Kailash Yadav, who was employed as a cook by the Loharukas, was arrested as the third accused. The three accused were produced in court on Wednesday and remanded in police custody till February 6.
As per the police, Agarwal and Loharuka allegedly used to go out with women and just before breaking up with them, the accused used to capture the private moments with them on camera.
As per the reports, till now the police have recovered as many as 187 video clips and pictures from the businessmen, who allegedly blackmailed women for money after threatening to make the videos public.
Initially, the accused did it for leisure but later on, they realized they could extort money through it. According to police, they allegedly asked their cook to make the calls and get the money.
“The two used to enter into relationships with women and record intimate moments. They used to target women aged between 18 to 30. They used to blackmail them and demand anything between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. We have found folders in their laptops that contained several videos.”
According to police, a file in Loharuka’s laptop was sent for forensic examination. While sharing the details the police said:
“The clips date back to 2013. Each video has been taken with different women in intimate positions.
The interrogation of the two prime accused revealed that they would befriend women and call them to different locations where cameras were already installed.”
Investigating officers are still looking into how many women were targeted.
It is disheartening to see how our educated men from reputed families have stooped so low. While Aggarwal’s family owns an ethnic-wear retail chain, Loharuka’s family owns multiple hotels in the city.
After the Pollachi Sex Scandal in which almost 50 women were sexually abused, filmed and later blackmailed, this Kolkata scandal has once again stunned the nation.
At IFORHER, we hope authorities will take strict and speedy actions against these convicts and not let them go free.
We need to celebrate the courage of women, who are coming forward to raise their voices against these monsters. We are extremely happy that Indian women are not letting the fear of ‘log kya kahengey’ to make themselves the victim of any such scandals.
