You feel heartbroken, disappointed and angry when your trustworthy custodians, whom you trusted to protect your kids, themselves make your kids the victim of a lustful desire.
When the POCSO Act was appended to include the death penalty for child abusers, many of us took a deep breath of relief. We felt elated and relieved as we felt our authorities were taking steps in the right direction to save our kids.
But, hardly we knew that the authorities themselves would turn into monsters and start preying on our kids.
Recently, a 32-year-old police constable, Sanjay Waghmare of Mumbai’s Tardeo police station was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl. We feel shattered!
As per the police, the 4-year-old stays in the same neighborhood as that of the accused.
Sadly, the incident allegedly took place when the constable lured the little child on the pretext of giving her a bar of chocolate.
He took her to his residence and then assaulted her.
Though the constable has been charged under relevant sections of the IPC, it is saddening to know that police themselves are involved in such a shameful act.
The victim, who belongs to a backward community, narrated the incident to her elder brother, who then informed their mother. Though the incident happened on Sunday, the family approached the Wadala police station on Wednesday.
As per the police:
“We arrested the accused on Thursday. He was produced in court and has been remanded in police custody for five days,”
But this isn’t the first time this constable has been accused of harassing or mistreating women.
During his earlier posting with Trombay police station, he was accused of stalking a woman. When the woman complained to his seniors, an inquiry was initiated against him.
But, the accused was transferred to the Tardeo local arms unit as punishment after he slapped a senior officer following an argument.
