Being a mother of 3-year-old daughter, I was always scared for my daughter’s safety in our country.
But, when I heard the news about a 15-year-old girl from Haryana alleging that she and her mother were raped by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), I was not only disappointed in the system but also in humanity.
What will happen to us, when people who are responsible to protect us themselves start abusing us or killing us. After Vivek Tiwari’s story, the man who was shot dead by UP police because of the mere reason that he didn’t stop his car, this is another case where our trust in the Police has been shaken up!
[ifh_news_form]As per News18, the victim, a 15-year-old girl, told senior officials that the main accused was an ASI rank police official, who raped her and her mother at their house last month. She also mentioned that the accused was helped by six other cops of Kalayat police station and 11 villagers, including sitting and former sarpanches, who stood outside the house and supported him.
The other cops, who posted at the Kalayat police station did not act when she and her mother approached them, she added.
Weren’t they hired or elected to protect the normal Janta – like you and me?
As per the Hindustan Times, Kaithal SP Astha Modi said an FIR has been registered against 7 policemen and 11 villagers, under Sections 376 D, 323, 384, 506 and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (PCSO) and they have started investigations.
The SP said a special investigation team (SIT) has been formed under Kaithal DSP Ram Kumar and Kaithal women police station in-charge to assist him in the investigation.
Though the investigation has started, but no one knows when the justice would be served. The pace at which the rape cases are coming to light, the only question everyone is asking:
“Are we such a sex-starved society that we should be fearful about the safety of our daughters, our wives, and our mothers every day?”
