Just hours before Nirbhaya’s 4 convicts were about to be hanged, there is once again disheartening news of the delay.
The four Nirbhaya convicts got another last-minute lifeline as Delhi court deferred their execution. They will not be hanged until further court orders.
In midst of a flurry of petitions filed by the convicts to stall their hanging, this disheartening decision came forward. A new petition was filed today before the Supreme Court.
One of the convicts, Pawan Gupta’s claim of being a minor during 2012 Nirbhaya’s gang-rape and killing was dismissed by the Supreme Court for the second time in two weeks. Last week, he had asked the court to review its decision once again, even though he had been told that once rejected, an age claim cannot be contested repeatedly.
Under the constitutional rights, the four men have filed multiple petitions in their attempts to stall their hanging set for tomorrow at 6 am. The hanging preparations were already completed as the hangman arrived yesterday at Tihar jail in Delhi. The convicts Pawan, Mukesh Singh, Akshay Singh, and Vinay Sharma were to be hanged together here.
Nirbhaya’s mother, teary-eyed, shared how disappointed she was with the judiciary process. While sharing how convicts bragged in the court that ‘Hanging Won’t Happen’, she shared:
As it is the second time, the hanging has been delayed, many took the internet to show their disappointment on the judgment:
You can’t hang 4 rapists(crime committed in 2012).And you talk about Justice and Women empowerment…Fuck this bullshit!And yeah,wait till further orders…Bencho,Judiciary nahi,lollipop ho gya…#NirbhayaCase #Nirbhaya #nirbhayaconvicts

This is officially the worst judicial system I have seen in my entire life! There is no concept of justice. #NirbhayaVerdict #nirbhayaconvicts https://t.co/KTkcqQE2Sp

At IFORHER, we are heartbroken that even after waiting for 7 years, the Nirbhaya’s family is still waiting for justice. We hope that their 7-year long wait would soon come to an end and these monsters would be hanged and punished for their horrific crimes.
