In light of the recent cases of minor rapes and child abuse, the parents in India are struggling to understand what are the safe places for their kids. Schools, once considered as a safe place, are not a safe place anymore.
Recently, a brave 14-YO gave us a great lesson on being fearless when she helped Pune Police in striking down a peon in her Kothrud School. And, you would be shocked to know the reason – WHY?
The peon had been allegedly touching 3 girls inappropriately and harassing them to view pornographic material for the last 3 months.
According to a report in Pune Mirror, the man, identified as 47-year-old Raghunath Chowdhary, allegedly grabbed the three girls and forced them to see the pornographic pictures, expecting them to ‘learn’ from them.
Though the girls escaped him, they claimed that they were threatened for weeks not to lodge a formal complaint against him.
When a 14-year-old gathered the courage to report the issue to her parents, the angered parents got in touch with the school. When the complaint was probed internally, the two other 13-year-old girls came forward with similar statements.
After receiving the written complaints, the school informed the police and the peon was terminated immediately.
After being booked under Section 7 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, for inappropriate touching and Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code for assault or criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty, the peon was produced before a court for trial.
Speaking to the Pune Mirror, Kothrud Police Inspector Appasaheb Shevale said,
“There could be more skeletons in the cupboard. We hope to receive more complainants through the school officials to mount more case on him.”
The only question that any parent would be asking themselves is how they protect the innocence of their kids and their childhood. Doesn’t matter if you have a son or a daughter, you always feel threatened about the safety of your kid – you always feel scared that there is a predator waiting to take away the innocence of your kid.
Wish our leaders would invest time and energy to enhance the DNA of our society, so that at least our kids could roam freely and fearless in this country.
In alignment with the POCSO Act, I For Her cannot reveal the names of the school or the victims.
