Once again, a horrific and shocking incident of rape and murder has rocked Uttar Pradesh. The second incident in the past 10 days from Lakhimpur Kheri in UP has surfaced. It is heartbreaking how on her way to fill the scholarship application, a 17-year-old Dalit girl was brutally raped and murdered.Â
This isn’t the first case. Just 10 days ago, in the same area, a 13-year-old girl was also raped and strangulated. As per the reports, a 17-year-old’s mutilated body was found near a dry pond around 200 meters away from her village in Neemgaon. With injury marks around her neck, the police mentioned she was killed using a sharp weapon.
As per the Superintendent of Police Satendra Kumar Singh, her post-mortem has confirmed rape. As per NDTV, the girl’s parents shared that the girl had left the home on Monday to visit a neighboring town to fill up a scholarship form. But when she didn’t return they informed the police. Her uncle told the media,Â
“I really don’t know what to say or whom to suspect. She left around 8.30 AM on Monday. We do not suspect anyone,”Â
As per the recent report, one person has been arrested. The police confirmed that the suspect has “confessed” to the crime and that police have cross-verified his statements.
According to the police, the suspect who has been identified as Dilshad supplied materials to a tailor shop where the girl used to get her clothes stitched. On the day of the incident, the police claim the accused stalked the girl and raped and murdered her while she was on her way back home.
The Bottom Line
It is heartbreaking how our daughters are not safe in their own country. While we tend to raise strong and independent daughters, our degrading social DNA is putting more and more daughters at the risk of becoming victims of sex-deprived monsters. This 17-year-old wanted to study, wanted to create a life for herself and her family. But, how we failed her and her parents is heart-wrenching.Â
Even after making the stricter rules, the increasing number of rape cases are showing no sign of abating. With every daughter abused, we are not only failing our daughters but also their parents and our country. Hope authorities would wake up to this ugly reality and take actions to safeguard our women and kids before it is too late!
