The next time you think about a birthday gift for your kid and decide to pick up the most updated gadget – take a minute to reconsider your decision.

Recently, an incident happened that shook every parent, who are ignorant about the harmful effects of the gadgets on their kids’ development.

A 14-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide in Maharashtra after his mother after his mother took away a mobile phone from him, police said on Wednesday.

Krish Sunil Lunawat, who lived with his mother and elder sister in a rented house in Mahal area, was suffering from mobile phone addiction.

He could be seen glued to the mobile phone and spending hours playing video games on it.

Kotwali’s police inspector, Umesh Besarkar, shared that he had stopped attending school for a year. As the mother and sister worked in private companies, the boy used to stay alone at home most of the times. The inspector added that the boy had also forced his mother to buy a new PlayStation gaming device. On Monday, when the mother had to go to Mumbai, she asked him to give the mobile phone to her.

The officer further added, Krish was disturbed over it and allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan using a bed sheet. He was found dead when Krish’s sister returned home.

This story has re-ignited the discussion about mobile phone addiction.

It tells us why we need to build awareness about Mobile Phones and their harmful effects on children. Some of the harmful effects of mobile phones on kids are:

1. Non-Malignant Tumors: The study has shown that children, who use mobile phones have a possibility of developing a non-malignant tumor in the brain and ear.

2. Cancer: WHO has classified cell phone radiation as ‘possibly carcinogenic to humans’. Children absorb more than 60% of the radiation into the brain than adults. Children absorb twice the radiation than the grown-ups as kids’ brain’s thinner skin, tissues, and bones allow them to absorb the radiation twice than the grown-ups.

3. Effects On The Brain: Based on the research, it has been discovered that just 2 mins of the phone call can alter the electoral activity of the kid’s brain for up to an hour. It could impair children’s learning ability and other behavioral problems. It could also affect their mood and learning ability.

In addition to the above, there are multiple other harmful effects of mobile phones on kids.

So, next time, when you are planning to gift a gadget to your little one, please do a quick research to know the harmful effects. You might be gifting him/her an addiction!
