The whole nation has come forward to show their anger and disappointment with rape and murder of the 27-yr-old veterinary doctor – Disha. Many people are demanding the harshest punishment for the four accused, who allegedly raped, murdered and set her body ablaze in Telangana.
Sharing her unbearable pain earlier, the mother of the victim had demanded that the accused be burnt alive. But, what will touch your heart is now even the mother of one of the accused has demanded the same.
In a video shared by TNM, the mother of one of the accused is heard saying:
“If my son is wrong, burn him the same way she was burnt. Isn’t the victim also the daughter of a mother? I am suffering today, I can imagine what the girl’s mother is going through.”
Realizing how difficult it is for a mother to lose her child, the way this mother of the accused has come forward in the support of the victim’s mother and the victim shows humanity is still alive. Many people across the internet applauded her stand in favor of the Hyderabad veterinarian doctor and her parents.
There is another mother, who bore the same unbearable pain 7 years back in 2012. What happened to her daughter made many of us hit the streets to demand justice for Nirbhaya.
Nirbhaya’s mother in the wake of the Hyderabad rape case, recently shared how nothing has changed in terms of women’s safety since 2012. It has been 7 years and she is still waiting for her daughter’s culprits to be punished. While sharing her pain for the parents of the doctor, she mentioned:
“I can understand the pain and anger of the family as I went through a similar pain in 2012. I request the government to not let any family go through similar trauma and to hang the culprits at the earliest. I am waiting for the day when killers of my daughter will be hanged.”
Further adding, she mentioned:
“After the December 2012 incident, it was assumed that things will change in terms of women’s safety but nothing happened. To stop crime against women, the government needs to send across a strong message by punishing the convicts within a time frame.”
It is heartbreaking to see how our authorities are failing the parents of victims – be they be Nirbhaya’s parents or Disha’s parents.
Disha’s family had alleged that the Cyberabad Police had failed to act on time on their complaint. They have told India Today TV that rather than helping them, they were made to run pillar to post between different police stations and wait for several hours before two constables were given as ride alongs to search for their missing daughter. The family also mentioned that the police initially refused to help them and said that the veterinarian doctor might have eloped with someone.
On Saturday, three police personnel were suspended by the Cyberabad Police in connection with the incident. Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the three personnel have been placed under suspension till further orders for dereliction of duty.
In the times when not only our society but also the authorities failed Disha and her parents, how these mothers have come forward in support of them is quite inspiring. At IFORHER, we pray for strength and peace for Disha and her parents as they are bearing the most painful moments of their life.
