Last year, the whole country came together to mourn the death of a 27-year-old Hyderabad’s veterinary doctor, Disha (name changed).
Disha was raped, murdered, and then set on fire by her abusers, while she was returning to her home in the evening. Now once again the shameful history has repeated itself. The only difference is that in place of 27-year-old Hyderabad’s veterinary doctor, this time it is a 6-year-old girl from Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
As per the sources, a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped, killed, and then set on fire. According to police, the victim’s half-burnt body was found at a home in Tanda, Hoshiarpur on Thursday.
The police further mentioned that the accused — Gurpreet Singh and his grandfather Surjit Singh – have been arrested on charges of murder, rape, and other sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The 6-year-old was the daughter of a migrant laborer who was living in the same village. According to the victim’s father, Gurpreet allegedly took the girl to his home where he allegedly raped her. Post which, Gurpreet and Surjit allegedly killed her and then burnt her body. The half-burnt body of the girl was found from their house, said police.
Tejinder Kaur, the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairperson, took suo motu notice of the incident. She has sought a detailed report from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hoshiarpur by October 26.
Punjab CM, Captain Amarinder Singh wrote on Twitter,
“The incident of rape & murder of 6-yr-old in Hoshiarpur is extremely sad & shocking. Though Police arrested the accused, have directed DGP (Director General of Police) to ensure proper investigation & that challan is presented speedily. Call for fast trial & exemplary punishment to guilty by Court.”
In a country, where a 6-year-old isn’t safe from sex-deprived monsters, the future of women and kids seems to be scary and dark.
At IFORHER, we are saddened, shocked, and heartbroken. We couldn’t stop wondering how many Nirbhaya and Disha will we lose before our authorities execute any stringent laws. We hope for the harshest punishment for the accused and pray for strength and courage for her family to bear such a painful loss.
