If as a country, we can’t protect a 3-year-old girl from sex-deprived predators, then we have no right to call ourselves a civilized society!
Recently, an incident happened that will show you how miserable we have become as far as protecting our kids is concerned. We are referring to the incident of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl being allegedly raped by a 56-year-old man in Noida.
Yes, you read it right: 56-year-old man!
Does this make you disgusted? or Sad? or Angry? or Scared?
The incident happened when the girl was playing outside the room her family lives in.
As per the family, about 10 days back, the accused had come from Kolkata to stay at his daughter’s place. He was living close to their house. While talking to TOI, the child’s mother recalled the heart-wrenching details of the incident:
“He took her inside his room. When I heard her cries, I rushed outside to see where she was but I couldn’t find her. I then rushed to the room and the man got alarmed. When I shouted at him, he opened the door,”Â
Being scared of a wrong-doing, the girl’s parents informed the police.
Unaware of what has happened to their little baby girl, the parents were told that their daughter needs to be taken to the district hospital for medical examination.
The results of the medical report broke the parents. It gave them the ugliest answer that they were expecting – it confirmed the rape of their little girl! Â
After the medical reports, Police lodged the case. Uday Pratap, SHO, told TOI:
“We have lodged a case under IPC sections 376 (2) (f) and sections 3(b), 4, 5(m) of POCSO ACT”
Though the Police has arrested the 56-year-old, the story has left us feeling helpless, scared and angry at the same time.
It made us feel whatever we do there might be a danger lurking over our daughters. Sadly, even some of us don’t find our sons also safe in this country. And, with age, the danger increases. How can we forget the Nirbhaya rape case?
If you feel you or your kids are safe because of your strong financial condition or your social status or the locality in which you live, then, sadly, you are absolutely wrong.Â
Sex predators have no fear for financial condition or social status. They just see their prey and hunt them down!
What Can We Try To Keep Our Kids Safe?
Try to at least follow these 4 major parenting tactics to make sure your kids are safe!
#1 Make Your Kids Understand What Is Sexual Abuse
Most of the times, kids are not even aware of what sexual abuse is?
Its important for every parent to have a detailed conversation with their kids about sexual abuse, good touch and bad touch! Also, schools should actively play a role in imparting knowledge about sexual abuse.
#2 Raise Your Kids To Stand Against Sexual AbuseÂ
The most difficult thing during sexual abuse is to raise your voice against it. It’s important for us to teach them to speak up if they or someone they know is being harmed by the molester.
Additionally, it would be good to teach them some strategies to interrupt the sexual abuse.
#3 Keep Lines Of Communication Open
Doesn’t matter whether our children are 8 or 18, no parent can deny the importance of having open communication with them.
It is important as it makes it easier for the kids to come to parents if they are undergoing abuse of any kind – physical, sexual or emotional.
#4 Don’t Stay Quiet; Take ActionÂ
Most of the times, the parents tend to stay quiet and don’t take actions even after the child has opened up about the sexual abuse.
Why? Because parents are scared of ‘Log Kya Kahengey?’
This doesn’t only breach the trust between the child and the parents but also makes the child self-blame for sexual abuse. This might lead to trauma which child doesn’t only bear into his childhood but also in their adulthood.
In case you have any story of how you or someone you know protected their kids against the abuse, do let us know.
We want to build awareness about the abuse that our kids undergo and how we can protect our them against it.
