While the whole nation is debating the encounter killing of 4 accused in Hyderabad’s Vet rape-murder case, the news about the death of Unnao rape survivor who was brutally burnt alive by the accused has shaken the nation.
After battling for 40 hours, the Unnao rape survivor left us and showed how our authorities once again failed the women of our country.
The 20-year-old survived a brutal rape by 5 men in March, paid the price of her courage to fight for dignity. A group of men set her ablaze in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao on her way to court for the court hearing in the rape case.
She was reportedly alone at the time of the incident, and this is when the accused men attacked her and set her ablaze. While she struggles for her life, you would be heartbroken to know that the men who had raped her earlier this year, are suspected to be behind the attempt to kill her.
As per India Today TV, while fighting for the life she told her brother:
“Usne kaha ki bhahiya mujhe bacha lo, mujhe marna nahi hai. Jinhonne mere sath ye kiya hai, unhe mai maut ki saza paatey dekhna chahti hu.
[She told me that brother, please save me, I don’t want to die. Those who have done this to me, I want to see them getting a death sentence]”
In her statement to the magistrate, the Unnao rape survivor alleged that Shivam and Shubham Trivedi had abducted and raped her in December 2018. She filed a case against them in March this year. Shubham, who was in jail in connection with the rape case, was granted bail on November 30, 2019.

Just after securing bail, Shubham started following and threatening her. But, what will break your heart is that the victim and her family allegedly informed the police about the threats but the police turned a deaf ear to the complaints.
Dr. Shalabh Kumar, HOD (Burns and plastic) at Safdarjung Hospital said as reported by ANI:
“She suffered cardiac arrest at 11:10 pm and we tried to resuscitate her, but she could not survive and at 11:40 pm she died.”
With a heavy heart at IFORHER, we wonder if it is a punishment to be a girl child in India. Many are raising voices to find a solution to make India safe for women, and we hope some concrete steps are taken soon.
Earlier this year, while giving the death penalty to a 22-year-old man accused of raping a 3-year-old-girl, the judge recited a very emotional and hard-hitting poem:
Kapdon Ke Kaaran Hote Rape Jo Kahein, Unhein Batlaun Main,
Aakhir Teen Saal Ki Bachchi Ko, Saree Kaise Pehnaun Main?
Gar Ab Bhi Na Sudhre Toh Ek Din Aisa Aayega,
Iss Desh Ko Beti Dene Se Bhaghwaan Bhi Ghabhrayega.
