It is heartbreaking how our authorities once again failed to protect a 17-year-old brave daughter, who raised her voice against sexual abuse.
In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district, a 17-year-old gangrape victim and her mother were crushed to death by one of the rape-accused while he was out on bail.
The rape accused ran over the mother-daughter duo with the tractor while they were on their way back home on a bicycle on July 14. As per the police, the accused, aged 35, was arrested the next day on July 15 and a murder case was registered against him and his younger brother.
Sharing the details, the Kasganj Superintendent of Police said that the incident was the result of the family dispute. The teen’s father was jailed for allegedly killing the accused’s father in 2016 over a financial dispute. Around two months after his father was killed, the son of the murdered man allegedly kidnapped the girl, who was merely 13 years old at the time. In her statement, she had alleged that three men raped her.
A few days later, she was rescued by the police. At that time, police had filed a gangrape case and sections of the POCSO Act were also invoked on the accused. The three accused were arrested and put behind bars.
While sharing the details of heart-wrenching incident:
“The accused was out on bail and on Tuesday evening, when the mother and daughter were returning from the market, he allegedly crushed both to death by running them over with his tractor…he fled on foot and left the tractor behind,”
It is a matter of utter shame, how we expect our daughters to raise their voices against stand for themselves but take hardly any steps to keep them safe.
If as a society, we are not disgusted by how this young girl suffered at the age of 13 and how she and her mother were punished for standing for their dignity, then we definitely have no right to call ourselves a civilized society!
