It is heartbreaking that even in the 21st century, our patriarchal mindset is killing innocent women every day.
While we proclaim to becoming a superpower soon, we wonder how could we even dream of it if we keep mistreating our women. Here’s one such incident of extreme cruelty that would leave you heartbroken and disgusted.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur district, a shocking incident took place in which a 40-year-old husband brutally killed his pregnant wife, Renu, over a cup of tea. This incident took place on Monday, when the husband, Babloo Kumar, beat his wife mercilessly because the tea served to him by his wife had less sugar.
The couple had been married for 12 years and were blessed with three kids.
On the basis of the complaint filed by Renu’s father, Badri Prasad, the FIR has been registered under IPC section 302 (murder) against the husband.
As per the sources, SHO of Pasgawa police station Rakesh Kumar, said,
“The couple fought because there was less sugar in the tea and the husband killed his wife with a sharp knife. We have recovered the murder weapon and the accused will be arrested soon. We are conducting raids to arrest him.”
“The children are witness to the murder and we have taken their statement,”
If a husband can kill his pregnant wife over just a cup of tea, then there is an immediate need to introspect about what kind of society we have become.
Increasing Domestic Violence Across Country
We are heartbroken with the increasing domestic violence against women in India. Last month, in Pitampura, Delhi, amid lockdown, an educated couple had a verbal argument, which turned into domestic abuse after the husband slapped the wife. A similar incident happened in Bihar. In another incident at Bangalore, the husband threw boiling water at wife because she refused to make him coffee
In order to handle the increasing cases of domestic violence, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has launched a WhatsApp number to report cases of domestic violence.
It is heartbreaking to see how lockdown has hit women with domestic violence, overwork, and pain. In tough times like these, it is sad and depressing how women are facing the ugly face of our patriarchal society.
At IFORHER, we pray for this wife’s soul to rest in peace and hope she would get justice soon.
A humble request to our readers: Battling domestic violence is never easy. If you know of someone who is struggling with domestic violence, then we request you to support them and encourage them to raise their voice for themselves. Because a life of dignity and self-respect is everyone’s right.
