Another case of abuse against an elderly woman surfaced on the internet that left many of us heartbroken. The reason why it left many devastated was the ugly reality that a woman was abused by two other women.
The video clip captured the heartbreaking incident that happened in Haryana, Sonepat. The video, that has gone viral on social media now, captured an 82-year-old senior citizen mercilessly beaten up by her daughter-in-law. The accused has been identified as Saroj, 38, an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM ) in the Health Department in Sonipat who in Sector 23.
The police filed the complaint against Saroj, the daughter-in-law, and her mother Mamta after Sukhdei’s son Rammehar filed a police complaint. In his police complaint, Sukhdei’s son Rammehar accused his wife and mother-in-law of torturing his mother for a long time. The video of abuse, captured by the children, was verified by the police before registering the case.
As per the report, Saroj and her mother Mamta were booked under Sections 323, 506 and 34 of the IPC. Saroj, who was on the run after her own children shared the videos on social media, has been arrested.

At IFORHER, we are heartbroken how this elderly woman became a victim of another woman’s wrath. While we demand the authorities to take strict action against the culprits, we wish for this grandmother’s speedy recovery.
A humble request
It is sad how after watching this video, many people are trying to undervalue the abuse some daughters-in-law undergo. They start questioning the laws that have been put in place to safeguard the interests of the young brides.
Rather than demanding laws to protect the elderly, they started criticizing how certain laws give more protection to young women against abuse. We want to request people to stand with this 82-YO mother without judging someone else’s abusive story. Demand more rights to safeguard elderly and vulnerable, rather than asking to demolish the progressive rights that safeguard thousands of women against abuse.
