If you are one of those desperate parents, who have sleepless nights because your daughter is unable to find a suitable groom, then you can not miss the story of this 27-year-old.
This story will definitely make you reconsider your priorities.
Should you worry more about your daughter’s marriage or her wellbeing & financial independence?
A 27-year-old woman in Kerala’s Karunagappally was allegedly starved to death by her husband and mother-in-law for dowry.
According to the police, Tushara was starved for an unknown period of time by her husband and in-laws.
She weighed just 20 kilograms at the time of her death.
As per TNM, the Sub-Inspector of Pooyapalli police station said,
“There was not an ounce of flesh on her when she passed away.
The doctor who performed the postmortem also confirmed that there were marks on her body which suggested that she was attacked by her husband and in-laws,”
According to reports, Tushara was also locked up in a room and only given sugar water and soaked rice to eat.
While recalling Tushara’s miserable state, a police official shared with news agency PTI,
“She looked like a bag of bones. A detailed inquiry has thrown light on the cruelty she was subjected to.
Her relatives alleged that she was tortured for dowry,”
What’s sadder is that the parents of the victim were even aware of the atrocities and cruelties their daughter was going through.
As per NDTV, the woman’s mother alleged the accused had been torturing her for the past five years and had not allowed the family members to meet her for the last one year. She further added:
“We did not file any police complaint as we feared it would put her life in danger.”
According to Tushara’s family, they were expected to pay Rs 2 lakh to the accused in addition to the jewelry that the victim had after her marriage. Tushara’s brother shared.
“However, they never demanded or asked us for the money.
They just kept torturing my sister regularly. Most of the neighbours were also scared to intervene due to the occult activities in the house,”
Though the husband and mother-in-law have been arrested, this story makes us wonder if India will ever be dowry-free.
