Gone are the days when rape victims used to keep quiet and suffer in silence because of the fear of being shamed by our ugly society.
Now, these traumatized survivors are fighting for themselves, fighting for their dignity, without fearing ‘log kya kahengey’.
One such real hero is this brave woman.
In a horrific incident, a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot district was allegedly gang-raped by six men. And, these monsters not only filmed this heinous crime but also posted the clip online.
But, what is even more heart-breaking is the fact that the survivor claimed that police only agreed to file a case only after the video went viral.
Though the incident happened on Monday, shockingly the police filed the case on Friday evening.
The incident happened when the woman was going to a relative’s place along with a family member. It was then she and the family member was stopped midway.
As per Arun Pathak, station officer of the area, these men tied up the family member to a tree and raped the woman.
He further confirmed that the 14-second-long clip of the incident is of October 28 and a case has been filed against six men. And, the woman has been sent for medical examination.
As per the sources, the woman mentioned that she went to the Mau police station and narrated the whole incident to the officials. And, rather than filing her complaint and arresting the culprits, the officials not only scolded her but also asked her to leave.
It was only the clip went viral, she met the superintendent of police and only after that a case was registered.
While the investigation is still on, we feel the authorities need to punish the officials, who rather than supporting this woman in seeking justice, not only scolded her but also tried to stifle her voice against sexual abuse.
As a society, we need to celebrate this woman’s courage. Rather than staying quiet because of societal pressure, she chose to demand justice.
