We live in a country, where kids and women live under constant threat of becoming victims of sex-deprived monsters. But, it breaks our hearts that now even animals are not safe anymore.
In yet another heinous crime, a 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a female stray dog. As per the reports, the incident happened on a foot over bridge at Wagle Estate in Thane on Tuesday, around 4:30 pm.
The incident came to light when a few boys, who used to feed the stray dog, found the accused abusing the dog. Without wasting any time, these young boys immediately reported the matter to Aditi Nair, an animal activist. On the basis of her complaint to the local police, the accused was arrested.
As per the police, the accused makes a living by doing a number of odd jobs including manual scavenging. While speaking to ToI, Aditi Nair shared how police were initially reluctant to file a case:
“I along with the team informed the local police, who were initially ‘reluctant’ to register a complaint in this regard, but we immediately escalated the case to Thane police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, who strictly directed the concerned police to act and make an airtight case.”
The police have filed the case under IPC Section 377 (unnatural sex) and Section 11(a) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. As per Prakash Nilewad, the ACP informed ToI,
“We are sincerely carrying out the probe and the accused was produced in the court and has been remanded to police custody for further investigation till 27 July.”
Though the accused has been arrested and the investigation is on, we are heartbroken as to how low can we get?
It isn’t the first time such news has broken the internet. In a similar incident of horrifying brutality, a 55-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a cow at a dairy in Sundar Nagar in Bhopal on July 8.
The increasing cases of similar animal abuse, makes us wonder if we can even call ourselves a civilized society. We hope authorities would take strict actions against the accused so that we send across a strong message to others.
