Like many of us, have you also encountered lewd and inappropriate gestures by men in public spaces? Have you also felt disappointed and disgusted with how we can’t even walk freely in our own country?
Recently, a similar shameful incident happened that left many disgusted. In a totally disgusting incident, a 24-year-old man on a scooter allegedly flashed his private parts to a 21-year-old law student. The incident happened in the Navrangpura locality of Gujarat’s Ahmedabad.
On January 22, the accused, Chirag Bhati, stopped next to the 21-year-old law student on a two-wheeler and asked her for an address. As she was directing him to the address, he unzipped his pants and what happened next will leave you disgusted and angry. The accused flashed his private parts to her and made indecent proposals and objectionable remarks about her body. This uncomfortable encounter made her scream for help. Post which, the accused fled on his two-wheeler.
Unlike many women, the victim refused to stay silent or ignore the incident. She went directly to the women’s police station (west) and filed the complaint against the accused. With the help of CCTV footage, the police identified the accused and arrested him from his residence in Usmanpura locality on Wednesday.
When the accused was interrogated, the accused gave his wife’s pregnancy as the reason behind his shameful act.
As per Times of India, the police official said:
“Bhati told the cops during primary questioning that he hadn’t had sex for the past three months as his wife was pregnant, and that is why he had committed the offense.”
Though an offense of sexual harassment has been registered against the accused, it is heartbreaking how this man cited his wife’s pregnancy as a reason behind his shameful gesture.
A few months back in an equally shameful incident, a man in Bengaluru flashed a woman from his terrace. He was arrested by the police following a complaint by the affected woman.
With increasing cases of women being targeted with inappropriate gestures and lewd comments in public spaces, it shows how our society’s DNA has been degraded. And, it’s high time that we women refuse to ignore such indecent gestures and raise our voices not only for ourselves but also for the future generation of women!
