Many of us have been fortunate enough to be born to parents, who never discriminated between a son or a daughter. But, sadly there are thousands of daughters who are struggling as they are still considered as a burden on their families.
These girls are not only deprived of the basic facilities and rights, but they are also left to struggle alone for their survival. And, one such brave girl battling for her life alone is Kanchan.
Kanchan’s life turned into a nightmare when both her kidneys failed. But that’s not even the saddest part of the story.
In such a situation, when parents are generally worried about their child and are ready to do whatever it takes to save them, Kanchan’s parents have refused to donate their kidneys to her because she is a girl.
It is so shameful that even in the 21st century, girls like Kanchan have to battle for their life all alone because of their gender.
Being a resident of Sheikhpura district in Bihar, Kanchan was very happy when she found out that she had cleared the matriculation examination with first division. Her eyes were filled with dreams to make a better life for herself.
Hardly she knew that her happiness was short-lived.
Soon after her celebration, she fell ill and had to be admitted at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna for treatment.
It was only after a series of tests, the doctors found out that both of her kidneys had failed.
Due to lack of financial support for a kidney transplant, the parents took her back to a local Sadar hospital in Sheikhpura.
There is a lack of financial support, but what is heartbreaking is the lack of parents’ willingness to save the child.
Based on the local media, the parents themselves refused to donate their kidneys as she is a girl.
With little no medical assistance, Kanchan is lying on the hospital bed literally waiting for her death. And, in such a painful moment, her own parents have left her side. As per the sources, her father Ramashray Yadav shared:
“Who will donate his/her kidneys? She is a girl,”
Even her mother showed no interest in saving her daughter from her unfateful destiny.
With the minimal will to save their daughter, the parents have not even approached the government to ask for any help.
The Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF) is known to have helped quite a few people in financial distress. Though the resources of the CMRF are usually utilized for providing immediate relief to the families of those killed in natural disasters, the funds also get utilized for the treatment of heart surgeries, kidney transplants and many more.
Even though these parents know what they could do to save their daughter, they are letting their child deliberately die. And, we feel heartbroken as we wonder how could any parents show so much insensitivity towards their own daughter.
What is even more saddening is the fact that these parents would have done anything to save Kanchan if she would have been a boy.
It is heartbreaking that these parents who let their kid die slow death will not be punished, and easily get away with what might be interpreted as the murder of their child.
Though we feel such insensitivity should be punished strictly, we would request you to come forward if you have avenues to support Kanchan.
After reading her heart-touching story, a couple of heroic strangers have come forward on social media to show the willingness to donate a kidney, we still feel there is a lot that could be done to save Kanchan.
And, if you would like to be Kanchan’s chance to live, you can reach out to her at Sadar Hospital, Sheikhpura, Patna, where she is hospitalized.
