Recently the discussion over Indian farmers’ protest captured worldwide attention on social media. But, how Indian men handled themselves during these social media interactions is a matter of national disgrace.
It doesn’t matter what your political belief is; It doesn’t matter whether you stand against or in solidarity with farmers, there is certain decency that one needs to carry while addressing the contradictory views.
How Indian men reacted when Rihanna posted a tweet regarding the Indian farmer was one such incident of indecency. Their derogatory comments showed how regressive our mindset is. Their tweets applauding Chris Brown for domestically abusing Rihanna showed the ugly reality of how Indian men feel it is okay to hit a woman if she doesn’t do or say things as per their wishes.
But, this wasn’t it. Recently, British actress Jameela Jamil opened up about how she was harassed and witnessed death and rape threats for supporting the farmers’ protest. In her long Instagram post, Jameela mentioned how she has been harassed by these threats. She wrote,
“I have repeatedly spoken about the farmers in India over the past few months and what is happening there at the moment, but each time I do I am met with death and rape threats”.

I’m just glad that the rest of the world can see how sick the Indian mentality is! *Not all of them, but certainly a lot of them.

Even some time back, MS Dhoni’s 5-year-old daughter Ziva received rape threats just because MS Dhoni’s team lost the IPL match and left them disappointed.
Irrespective of where your ideologies and beliefs lie, supporting Chris Brown for hitting Rihanna; or giving rape & death threats to Jameela is absolutely wrong. These actions are just a reflection of what kind of patriarchal society we have become.
Do these comments make you wonder how our future daughters would be free and safe to raise their voices? Do let us know.
