When we all think our politicians can disappoint us more, they stoop further lower and come back with another frustrating sexist comment. Just a few days back, Tirath Singh Rawat made a statement about women wearing ripped jeans. He mentioned:
Kainchi se sanskaar (culture by scissors) — showing bare knees, wearing ripped denim and looking like rich kids — these are the values being given now. All of this, in a mad race of westernisation. While the western world follows us, doing yoga … covering their body properly. And we run towards nudity. If this kind of woman goes out in the society to meet people and solve their problems, what kind of message are we giving out to the society, to our kids? It all starts at home. – Uttarakhand CM, Tirath Singh Rawat
Now, by the time we received an apology by Tirath Singh Rawat for the ripped jeans’ statement, we saw another shameful comment from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate Dindigul I.Leoni about women’s body, during a campaign meeting on March 24.
As per sources, in his insensitive and disgusting statement, Leoni compared women to cows and said that women have become fat by drinking foreign cows’ milk.
In the viral video, Leoni could be heard saying:
“There are different types of cows, and then there are foreign cows, whom you have to milk using machinery. They can provide up to 40 litres of milk. Our ladies have become fat drinking this milk,”
Further adding how Indian women have lost their shape, Leoni mentioned:
“These days, women drink milk from foreign cows because of which they have put on weight. Those days, a woman’s hip resembled the number 8. When she lifted her child, they stayed put on the hip. But now they’ve become like barrels because of which they cannot carry their children on their hips,”
Many netizens came forward to express their disgust after the video clip of his speech went viral on social media for deriding women for their shape and weight.
What a shame.. what milk does he drink? Does he know what happens to women’s body post pregnancy or during hormonal changes? @KanimozhiDMK what do you like to say to this kind of male chauvinist? Is this the respect your party people have on women. https://t.co/7yMf5esqX0

At the time Leoni’s video went viral, another video of West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh went viral too. In this video clip, Dilip Ghosh commented on Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee’s saree. He made fun of Banerjee for lifting her saree up to show off her bandaged foot. He not only questioned how she was wearing a saree with a broken leg, but also suggested her to wear a Bermuda. In the video, Ghosh could be heard saying:
“What kind of saree is she wearing, which covers one leg and shows the other? If you want to put out your leg, why saree, wear a Bermuda, it can be seen,”

@BJP WB Pres asks in public meeting why Mamatadi is wearing a saree, she should be wearing “Bermuda” shorts to display her leg better

And these perverted depraved monkeys think they are going to win Bengal?
We wonder why politicians are so obsessed with women’s clothes, size, and weight! Don’t we have enough problems that need their attention – increasing crimes against women, growing coronavirus cases, dropping economy, lack of jobs, and many more. Then why they don’t focus on real issues and leave us alone.
