Not a day passes when we don’t hear the news of rape in our country. Amongst all this, Haryana CM M.L. Khattar has given a statement which makes us wonder if we as a country are even serious about the safety of our women.
As per ANI, speaking at a function in Panchkula district of Haryana, Khattar seemed to be justifying rape incidents with the following statement:
“The biggest concern is that in 80 to 90 percent of rape and eve-teasing cases, the accused and the victim know each other. In many cases, they know each other for a long time and, on one day, when there is an argument (between them over some issue)… an FIR is lodged, saying: ‘He has raped me’.”
He further added:
“The incidents of rape have not increased… Rapes used to take place in the past and even today as well. (Only) the concern (over such incidents) has increased.”
The ever-increasing number of rape cases has us worried about the degradation of our society. To men who rape, it doesn’t matter to a beast whether she is a 100-year-old woman or a 2-year-old girl.
Coming from the Chief Minister of a state known for its abuse against women, Khattar has us worried if he ever thinks about making Haryana safe for women. It is a pity that our elected netas would go to any extent to not accept their failure in protecting citizens, and rather blame the victims themselves.
Here’s the video of the statement:
