Indian Men Praising Chris Brown For Domestic Abuse Against Rihanna Is Our Society’s Ugly Reality

by IForHer Team
February 4, 2021

Trigger Warning: Descriptions of sexual assault and physical violence. Reader caution is advised.

In a country, where millions of women suffer domestic abuse every day, Indian men shamelessly applauding Chris Brown for assaulting Rihanna on social media reveals the ugly truth of our society. It shows how our Indian Men feel it is okay to hit a woman if they tend to say or do things that don’t please them.

Domestic Assault of 2009

In 2009, a night before the Grammy Awards, Chris Brown who was 19 years old at that time, was arrested for assaulting Rihanna, who was 20 years old then. Chris Brown hit Rihanna so profusely that he left her bruised and bleeding. He was sentenced to five years probation and six months of community labor for assaulting Rihanna.

In a documentary that was released in 2017, Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life, Brown said he “felt like a monster” as he talked about the incident.

“I remember she tried to kick me, just like her beating s**t, but then I really hit her. With a closed fist, like I punched her and it busted her lip. And when I saw it I was in shock, I was like, f**k why did I hit her like that?”

Now though Chris Brown, the abuser himself, realized how it was a matter of grave shame. But, not our Indian Men. Our Indian Men yesterday praised Brown for assaulting Rihanna in 2009. Why? Just because her tweet in support of Indian farmers angered them.

No wonder Chris Brown used to beat her ????????

Are you going to shut up or should I be calling Chris brown

— Pranshu (@Pranshu81214055) February 3, 2021

@chrisbrown did a really great job.

@rihanna we can do a lot of things just like #ChrisBrown did to you in ’09…..but we are not doing anything….so relax ????#FarmersProtest https://t.co/qh9YpEOIX7

She must be given another coating by CHRIS BROWN, I think.

Because, these CLUB GIRLS are talking RUBBISH without knowing the FACTS.

— Siva Kumar (@SivaKum88344501) February 3, 2021

I stand with @chrisbrown for bashing up @rihanna ????????

Disgusting ppl….all they think of is oppressing women. They are so scared of a woman holding the power to turn the world’s heads towards an issue that they had to bring up that so called “masculine” shit up. Laahnat ehoje bnde utte jo aurat te hath chkke….he isnt a man.

— Jasneet (@Jsskaurr) February 3, 2021

This incident is a reflection of how our Indian Men still believe it is okay to assault our daughters just because they showed courage to stand for their views.

Doesn’t matter if you stand against or in favor of Rihanna’s support for farmer’s protest, but if Indian Men have the audacity to cheer Chris Brown for assaulting then just understand what kind of misogynist society we have become! If it doesn’t bother us, doesn’t anger us, then probably we are as much culprit as those shameless men who applauded Chris Brown!
