Multiple shocking incidents at Indian Schools have raised the question in the minds of all parents whether our children are safe in school or not?
Recently, many parents were disheartened after hearing the painful and sad incident that happened at Ganauli Primary School in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.
In a heart-wrenching incident of corporal punishment, a teacher punished a Class-2 student by brutally beating him for not cleaning the floor properly.
As per the sources, when the teacher allegedly pushed the boy, Deepak, he fell on a desk and critically injured his eye.
Though Deepak’s family has registered a complaint with the police, the police have claimed that the accused teacher is absconding. Now, the police have constituted the team to investigate the matter & search for the accused.
It is heartbreaking that even after corporal punishment being a punishable offence in India, there is no sign of such incidents stopping.
Earlier this year, a Madhya Pradesh teacher was arrested for punishing a girl student in a heart-breaking way. When the girl went to school without completing her homework the teacher, Manoj Verma, told her classmates to slap her as a form of punishment.
And what makes it heartbreaking is the fact that following the teacher’s instructions, 14 girls slapped the helpless girl two times every day for six days. This little girl was slapped 168 times only because of incomplete homework.
In another incident last year, the teacher of Pune-based residential school asked the class to draw two paintings but the student was unable to draw. This made the teacher angry and he started beating the kid so brutally that he suffered from the facial paralysis.
It is a high time that our education system thinks about how did we reach this stage – Teachers are shaming, abusing, and even raping their students?
In our culture, teachers hold a very respectful place. A famous world-renowned poet Kabir once said:
“Kabir Guru Aur Sadhu Ku Sish Nababai Jaye
Kahai Kabir So Sevaka, Maha Param Pad Paye”(If God and my Teacher were to stand before me, who would I first greet?
I will choose my Teacher; for it was through his teachings that I saw God.)
Hardly he knew that his beautiful lines will lose their meaning in the modern world. Some shameless teachers will turn themselves into abusers, who will destroy our kids rather than building them.
At IFORHER, we pray for Deepak’s speedy recovery and hope authorities will soon capture the accused to provide justice to Deepak and his parents.
