As the world is struggling with coronavirus, how this mother fought like a true warrior to save the life of her six-month-old baby is not only inspiring but also worth celebrating.
When the father-in-law of this woman tested positive to coronavirus COVID-19 she hardly knew the nightmare that she was about to live. After her father-in-law, when her six-month-old baby started showing symptoms, this mother had to run from pillar to post to get her kid admitted to the hospital.
As per India Today, the six-month-old child is the latest case to have been tested positive for Covid-19 in Mumbai’s Kalyan. While on Thursday, the baby’s 67-year-old grandfather tested positive for Covid-19, the family of five was sent to municipal hospitals for further quarantine and testing.
While sharing her ordeal, this brave mother shared with India Today,
“I have a six-year-old son and a six-month-old infant, my baby had been suffering from fever but his condition deteriorated on Friday morning.
We were sent to the Shastri Nagar Hospital where there were no facilities. Upon multiple requests the Shastri Nagar Municipal Hospital authorities sent an ambulance in which we were taken to the SRCC hospital in Tardeo,”
She added:
“It was no less than a nightmare as the infant’s temperature kept rising, he stopped eating and his condition kept deteriorating. When we reached SRCC Hospital, the hospital authorities refused to admit or treat my baby.
They said they haven’t been treating or admitting Covid-19 patients and I will have to go to Kasturba Hospital. After requesting them for hours, a senior doctor from SRCC Hospital gave a reference letter for admission to Kasturba Hospital.”
But even after reaching Kasturba hospital, the nightmare didn’t end for her.
When they reached Kasturba hospital, the baby had stopped responding. The baby’s condition deteriorated as the body had turned pale with a high fever. The helpless mother kept running from one office to another office but no one paid any heed to her requests.
It was only after India today informed the Maharashtra Health Minister about this mother’s condition, that the baby was finally hospitalized at Kasturba Hospital.
When on Saturday, the baby’s reports came in, the results showed that he was COVID-19 positive. Now, the whole family has now been admitted to the Kasturba Hospital.
Though none of the family members has any history of foreign travel, still the family has two positive cases. It is suspected to be a result of community transmission.
It is heartbreaking how a mother had to run from pillar to post to get her baby admitted to the hospital for the treatment. It is not only disappointing but also shameful how the baby’s life was put at risk by various hospitals by not admitting the baby in need.
At IFORHER, we pray for the speedy recovery of this 6-month-old baby. And hope authorities will take actions to ensure no other family has to struggle so much to save their family members fighting against COVID-19. But, let’s take a moment to applaud this mother’s courage for not giving up to save the life of the little baby.
