Recently, the country has woken to another heinous rape crime. A minor girl was raped by 5 boys, who belong to influential families. As per the reports, a teenager in Hyderabad, who went to a pub for a party, was allegedly gang-raped by schoolboys inside a Mercedes car in an upscale part of town last Saturday.
As per the reports, a boy befriended the teenager at the club and allegedly promised to drop her home. It was then the girl left the club with him and his friends. The five boys allegedly parked the car at Jubilee Hills – one of the poshest neighborhoods in the city. It was then they took turns to rape the girl while the others stood guard outside the car. As per the sources, the MLA’s son reportedly got off the car before the assault and ran away.
The accused are Class 11 and 12 students, who belong to “politically influential” families, says the police. As per reports, an MLA’s son is believed to be part of the group, but the police say he may not have been involved in the gang rape. So far, two accused have been apprehended in the Hyderabad rape case. One accused, identified as Saduddin Malik, was arrested yesterday.
While the news of a minor’s rape itself is so heart-breaking but what’s even more disgusting is the victim shaming that’s happening over social media. Rather than blaming the culprits and their poor parenting, many men came forward to shame and blame the victim and her parents.
In this thread on Hyderabad Gang Rape, you could see certain men blaming the victim, the parents, and in general the concept of women empowerment.
The whole thread started with this comment:
“Not blaming the victim, but request Hindu girls to be more careful. Even in the west a girl won’t go in a car with 5 strangers she met the same day. It just doesn’t fit into any normal expression of individual freedom. It’s just risky behavior.” – Eminent Intellectual
And, what followed it was the series of regressive tweets about shaming the minor, her parents, and feminists!
Some called the accused innocent just because the girl took a lift from them.
And, some even said she deserved it.
But, thankfully there was someone to tell these men what they were doing was nothing but victim shaming!

Why was she at the pub? Why parents let her go to the pub? Why did she take the lift from 5 boys, who said they will drop her home? Was she drunk? Why was she drinking? So many people came forward to question the victim and her parents. But why these people are not questioning the boys and their parenting? Why boys were at the pub? Why did boys rape her? How is it okay to rape someone just because she took a lift from you?
If this thread doesn’t disgust you; doesn’t make you angry, then probably you are a part of the problem. You are the reason why men and boys in our country feel entitled to rape women! They feel it’s okay to rape a woman just because her clothes were revealing or she was out on the streets at night! Please raise your voice against this regressive mindset before it’s too late.
Do let us know what you think about this victim shaming in the comments.
