Once again, India’s Supreme Court left many disappointed and shocked with its bizarre question. In a question that has been commented upon heavily on social media, the Chief Justice asked the rape accused if he intended to marry the victim. The Supreme Court bench asked the accused: “Will you marry her?”
Later, the accused told the Supreme Court: “Initially I wanted to marry her. But she refused. Now I cannot as I am already married.” Post which, the apex court rejected his appeal. But the bench gave the petitioner interim protection from arrest for four weeks.

Many netizens couldn’t stop themselves from sharing their disgust and disappointment with Supreme Court’s question.
Reacting to the same, Taapsee asked if the victim in this situation has a right to lead her own life. The actor wrote on Twitter,
“Did someone ask the girl this question? If she wants to marry her rapist !!!??? Is that a question !!!??? This is the solution or a punishment? Plain simple DISGUST!”

Not just Taapsee Pannu but also singer Sona Mohapatra, found the statement terrifying and disturbing.
“This is sickening & deeply disturbing. A rapist marrying his victim has been a gory & repulsive bollywood solution in the past, how can a Supreme Court of #India fall to these levels?” the singer shared on Twitter.
There were many more who shared their views against the regressive thought process:

A statutory rape is statutory rape. Sex with a minor is statutory rape. Why did the CJI want to know if the man intended to marry the girl or not? What relevance did it have? Besides being irrelevant, ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ it would be a crime. https://t.co/9dRYhUH4Yb

I honestly cannot fathom this warped form of ‘justice’

Whatsoever
Who can possibly have any logic as to how this can be any sort of solution? https://t.co/2pXKpLSmbz
