The school punished this family because their daughter showed courage to raise voice against abuse by a teacher. This makes you wonder how our schools are going to keep our kids safe?
In a country where cases of child abuse come to light every day, we have to stop punishing the victims.
It’s our fault as a society and as a country that we are not able to save our kids from the brutality of the predators. Rather than being supportive of their struggle, we tend to isolate them from society. We tend to blame the abuse survivors even though we know it wasn’t their fault at all.
A similar case came to light recently. The private school expelled a girl for allegedly spoiling the institute’s environment. Her fault: She was brave and accused a teacher of molesting her.
And, what is even more saddening is how her whole family was punished because this brave daughter raised her voice against the abuse.
As per India Today,
The girl, a Class 12 student, studying in a school in Haryana’s Bhiwani had alleged that she was molested by a teacher, identified as Ranjit.
The girl’s mother and father, who also worked at the same school, claimed that the school refused to take any action against the accused teacher. Instead, school authorities expelled their daughter as well as their son who is in Class 4.
Not only that, but the girl’s parents were also fired from the school.
Looking at how the whole family was punished because their young daughter waged a war against her abuser, this mother tried to approach the authorities and local politicians to help them in seeking justice. But nobody came forward.
Tired of feeling helpless for her kids and husband, this mother decided to commit suicide.
The girl’s mother consumed poison on Thursday at the Bhiwani District Education Office. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and is now out of danger after treatment.
These parents had registered an FIR against the teacher and he was arrested by the police. But the school management has been found guilty in disobeying the orders of allowing the girl to attend classes.
Confirming the allegations, District Education Officer Bhiwani Ajit Singh Sheoran said that the school authorities were directed to admit the girl. However, they disobeyed.
This isn’t the first time that a brave daughter has been punished for raising her voice against the abuse happened in school. Last year, a private school in Dehradun allegedly denied admission to the girl because she was gang-raped in a boarding school.
At I FOR HER, our heart pains how this brave daughter and her family has been punished by the school authorities for seeking justice against the abuser.
And, we wonder how our society will ever change when the school themselves are punishing our kids for raising their voices against the abuse.
