As per the report, the Bhopal police today registered a case against TV actor Shweta Tiwari for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through her remark on God.
The case was registered after Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra gave directions to the city police to investigate her remark and submit a report.
On Wednesday, during the promotion of her web series “Show Stopper”, Shweta Tiwari made a controversial statement in Bhopal. The video clip of Shweta Tiwari’s controversial statement went viral on social media. In this clip she allegedly referred to God while speaking about her “bra”. During an interaction with media persons, her co-actors were also present when she made the remark.
As per the sources, the clip shows the Shweta Tiwari making a statement, “Mere bra ki size bhagwan le rahe hai.” (God is taking the measurements for my bra), while her co-stars could be seen seated on a dais.
Actor from the popular TV series ‘Mahabharata’, Saurabh Jain, who played the role of Lord Krishna in the mythological show, will be playing the role of a ‘bra fitter’ in the upcoming series. Shweta Tiwari jokingly made the alleged statement in reference to Saurabh, during the press conference, reported news agency ANI.
As per the official of Shyamla Hills police station, “A case was registered against Shweta Tiwari today under IPC section 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs),”
Based on the complaint by Sonu Prajapati, a local citizen, who alleged that the actor has hurt his religious sentiments through her comment, the case was filed.
“We will summon Shweta Tiwari to the police station either by sending her a notice by post or by sending a police team to her place to serve notice….The offence is non-bailable, but as it attracts imprisonment of less than seven years, no arrest can be made as per the Supreme Court’s directive issued earlier,” he added.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kotwali) Bittu Sharma told news agency PTI that the actor would be formally arrested, but she can get bail from the police station itself after which she has to get it ratified by a competent court.
This news left the internet divided. Some felt that there was no harm in what Shweta said and politician is unnecessarily blocking the free speech!
These are the politicians that restrict speech. In any developed country, they wud have been in the fringe. In India, they dominate public discourse.
Ordering probe for a comment when there are ppl languishing in jail, hungry, homeless, riots in the name of religion. It’s a hue n cry for nothing. God made humans n clothing including breasts n bra. Nothing wrong in stating that
Recently, Shweta Tiwari has issued the public apology aswell.
Shweta Tiwari’s statement read: “It has come to my notice that a certain statement of mine referring to a colleague’s previous role has been taken out of context and has been misconstrued. When put in context, one will understand that the statement in reference to ‘Bhagwan’ was in context with Sourabh Raj Jain’s popular role of a deity. People associate character names to actors and hence, I used that as an example during my conversation with media. However, it has been completely misconstrued which is saddening to see. As someone who has been a staunch believer of ‘Bhagwan’ myself, there is no way that I would intentionally or unintentionally say or do any such thing that would hurt sentiments by and large. I have, however, come to understand that when taken out of context, it has unintentionally hurt feelings of people. Please be assured that it has never been my intention to hurt anyone, with my words or actions. Hence, I would like to humbly apologise for the hurt that the statement has unintentionally caused to a lot of people.”
