We live in a country, where rape happens every 16 minutes. In the midst of this toxic misogynic society, many victims are blamed and left alone to bear the pain. While many chose to suffer in silence, there are few who choose to fight for their dignity.
One such fighter is this 23-year-old woman, who was not only abused but also harassed by her own family for no fault of hers.
As per Times Now, in yet another heartbreaking sexual assault in Uttar Pradesh, a 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men inside a hotel room in Kanpur after being invited to attend a birthday party. This incident happened on Tuesday. The woman filed the complaint which led the arrest of two accused on Thursday.
In her complaint, the survivor stated that her neighbor, whose father is a police sub-inspector, called her to the hotel room for celebrating the birthday of her brother. As she reached the hotel, Ashish was present in the room with his friend Abhishek. The duo chatted with her for some time and later, offered her sedative-laced soft drink.
As per the Times Of India, police said:
“It is alleged that as soon as she consumed soft drink, she lost consciousness. Later, when she regained consciousness, she realized that she was raped,”
But this journey wasn’t easy at all as the survivor decided to end life after the family abandoned her.
As per the sources, when the girl reached home after the incident, rather than supporting their daughter, her family allegedly chided her. They not only scolded her but also and denied her entry into the house.
Vexed over this, she decided to end her life and marched to a railway crossing. Fortunately, one of her friends rushed to the spot and saved her. And, then together they went to Barra police station and got an FIR registered against the accused.
The inspector Barra Harmeet Singh told TOI:
“ The accused Ashish and Abhishek have been arrested. We would initiate action against the girl who had lured the survivor, after recorded her statement. A case has been registered against the accused,”
At IFORHER, we are in awe of this brave woman who is fighting for herself while her own family refuses to stand by her. While we shame our head as this lady has to fight for herself all alone, we hope the society will change and stop blaming the rape victim!
