No one can deny how quick our society is to pass judgments on women. Whether it is about their life choices or body appearances.
It is very common for our society to pass hurtful comments on women’s appearance whether it is about her skin color or body shape.
Though some people do it out of the habit of making women feel less enough, some believe that making an overweight person feel ashamed of their weight or eating habits may motivate them to get healthier.
However, scientific evidence confirms that nothing could be further away from the truth.
Instead of motivating people, fat-shaming makes them feel terrible about themselves. It causes them to either eat more & gain more weight or triggers mental illness.
In fact, multiple pieces of research have confirmed that fat-shaming could lead to negative body image, low self-esteem, depression and could also trigger suicide in extreme situation. Since time immemorial, women tend to ignore the negative voices telling them they are not good enough
But with changing times, many women are raising their voices against the mental torture that is triggered by these negative remarks.
Recently, a 27-year-old woman submitted a divorce plea in a UP court on the ground that her husband constantly shames her for being overweight.
As per the Indian Express, the wife shared how her husband allegedly subjected her to mental torture by constantly calling her fat. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate has already accepted the plea and statements of both sides will be recorded in the coming days.
So What Happened?
As per the plea, the couple got married in 2014 in Meerut. Initial days were peaceful. But things turned ugly when the couple shifted to a flat in Indirapuram in 2016.
It’s then that the husband started visiting social gatherings alone and would refuse to take his wife on the pretext that she was too “fat”. Sadly, as per the wife, the husband also prevented her from attending parties because of her physical appearance.
Not only she claimed to be subjected to mental torture over her weight but also shared how often her husband made humiliating remarks about her fitness in front of other people.

It is saddening to know that a well-educated husband, who has a degree in software engineering and works in an international firm, could humiliate her wife with such hurtful remarks.
It is not just this woman, but millions of women across the world also suffer from low self-esteem or mental illness as they become victims of body-shaming. Not just strangers but their own family members and friends pass hurtful remark without knowing how they are breaking their confidence and self-esteem.
Recently, Sameera Reddy and Neha Dhupia came forward to talk against body-shaming as they became of victim of body-shaming themselves after their motherhood journey.
