Since time immemorial, the patriarchal society across the world have discriminated against women. But during a crisis, women have always turned into real heroes to save the people of the very same patriarchal society. Shirin Rouhani is one such example.
As the world is struggling with the global Coronavirus pandemic, with 29000 people infected, Iran is one of the worse-hit countries.
During this tough time, Iranian doctor Shirin Rouhani turned into a real-time hero. She lost her life while battling the deadly virus. Shirin was stationed at Iran’s Shobada hospital where she saved several lives of many patients infected with the coronavirus.
The contribution of this great soul came to light when Shirin’s picture went viral on social media. This picture left many teary-eyed as it was a reflection of true courage. In the picture, Shirin was seen treating patients while herself being connected to the IV drip.

Shirin is one of the many healthcare workers in Iran who lost their lives while saving others. Iran has seen a high mortality rate among healthcare providers who are working tirelessly to fight the pandemic.
According to Iran’s health ministry, every hour at least 50 people are being infected with COVID-19 and every ten minutes a person is losing his life to the virus. Iran is facing an acute shortage of medical facilities, gears as well as doctors.
Many people have taken to the internet to thank and appreciate the effort of Shirin and many other healthcare workers, who are risking their lives to save others.

In these tough times, it is disheartening to see how in India some people indulged in inhumane acts of harassing healthcare workers. Recently, Delhi landlords forcibly evicted Delhi AIIMS doctors and nurses as they perceived them at high risk of getting infected with COVID-19.
It is not only disappointing but a matter of shame how medics and airline crew members are facing discrimination and ostracization in our country because of their work. In fact, these are among the most important people, who are fighting to save all of us.
