IAS Officer Gives Up Maternity Leave, Resumes Work Amid Corona Crisis; Netizens Applaud Her

One such inspiring hero is Srijana Gummalla, an IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh.

In the times, when many of us sitting comfortably in our homes during the lockdown, Srijana has shown real dedication to her service, to the country and its citizens.

To serve mankind during these testing times, the IAS officer decided to forego her 6-month maternity leave and returned to work within 22 days of giving birth to her baby.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, she said that she is lucky to have a supporting husband and mother.

“My role is just a small part in this humongous effort, rather modestly. My whole family gave me the strength to work towards this commitment.”

As per multiple reports, Srijana Gummalla, a 2013-batch IAS officer, currently serving as Commissioner of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation in Andhra Pradesh, became a mother as she gave birth earlier this year.

In our battle against coronavirus, no one could deny the importance of sanitation workers. To lead the team of her workers at AP, Srijana refused to take her maternity leave. Instead, she decided to join duty with her baby accompanying her at work.
