Celebs, Fans & Critics Call Kantara ‘Greatest Indian Film’, Demand It To Be India’s Next Official Oscars Entry

After pushing RRR makers to reach the Oscars, netizens want Rishab Shetty’s movie Kantara to be the next film to go to compete at the Academy Award nominations next year.

Kantara, a Kannada film, recently became the highest-rated Indian movie on IMDb. The movie defeated many blockbusters like Yash starrer KGF: Chapter 2 and SS Rajamouli’s RRR.

It is quite impressive how not only fans but also celebs like Kangana Ranaut, Dhanush, Prabhas, and many more are lauding this small-budget impressive movie.

Because of its attention-grabbing storyline and impeccable performances of talented actors like Rishab Shetty, Sapthami Gowda, and Deepak Shetty, netizens have already started making the #KantaraforOscars trend on Twitter.

While applauding the movie in a video, Kangana said,“This is what cinema is, this is what films are for and theatrical experience, unbelievable. I heard so many people in the theatre say, log jaate jaate keh rahe the ki humne aisa kuch bhi nahi dekha kabhi (I heard so many people say while they were leaving that they haven’t seen anything like this). Thank you for this film and brilliant. I don’t think I will recover from this experience, not for another week. wow!”

Taking to Instagram Stories on Friday, Kangana also wrote, “I feel #Kantara should be India’s entry to Oscar next year, I know year is yet to end and there may be better films coming, but more than Oscar India needs the right representation globally… this land of mysteries and Mystics one can’t understand one can only embrace it …. India is like a miracle… if you try and make sense of it you will only get frustrated but if you surrender to the miracle you can also be one …. Kantara is an experiential reality which world must experience .. @rishabshetty77.”

Even Dhanush lauded Rishab’s movie. The actor tweeted, “Kantara .. Mind blowing !! A must watch .. Rishab Shetty, you should be very proud of yourself. Congratulations hombale films .. keep pushing the boundaries. A big hug to all the actors and technicians of the film. God bless”

Meanwhile, film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh has also shared the numbers raked in by Kantara on his Twitter account. Kantara: The Plot 

Kantara is a story that revolves around a demi-god – Bhoota, who trades the forest land of the tribal with the king in exchange of his happiness. The king’s son grows up to be a greedy person and claims the land back leading to a series of events.

Kantara was initially released only in Kannada but upon positive reception, it was later dubbed and released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. The film has collected Rs 170 cr worldwide, including over Rs 150 cr gross in India.
